Child on beach with suitcaseWe all look forward to going away on vacation, and with that, a lot of preparation must occur. Booking airline tickets, hotel reservations, packing bags, and more all need to be done before leaving. However, there are some dental preparations that should be done as well. This is especially true if you haven’t seen your dentist in a while.

Dental Preparation Before Going On Vacation

While going to the dentist or thinking about going to the dentist is the last thing on most people’s minds; planning ahead can save you from a lot of pain and expenses.

Visit Your Dentist

If you have not been to your dentist in a while, or if you have been putting off your dental visits, going for a dental exam or check-up before your vacation would be a good idea. Any outstanding dental should be done before they become a problem. If you are in slight pain before your vacation, see your dentist because dental pain rarely subsides on its own. Dental pain intensifies in most cases when it is not addressed.

Remember Your Toothbrush & Cleaning Aids

Remember to continue with your regular oral care routine. This should include brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least once a day. Remember to carry floss, a toothbrush, mouthwash, and toothpaste. If you are limited on space, you can also carry travel sized versions which can be found in the health section of your local health store or pharmacy. If you have an electric toothbrush, remember to pack your charger if your toothbrush uses on.

Be Prepared If Engaging In Sports Or Physical Activities

If you will participating in any sports or engaging in physical activities where contact may be involved, consider getting a custom-made sportsguard. Sportsguards help protect your teeth from injury.

Have Emergency Numbers Handy

Remember to keep a list of emergency numbers for your dentist, doctor, pharmacy, etc., in case an emergency arises.

You’ll have a much better vacation experience, once all your bases are covered. Contact us if you need to schedule a visit before your vacation begins.
