Learn why different types of digital radiographs are needed for different uses. Have you ever wondered why your dentist asks for dental x-rays? Have you noticed that sometimes they take a few x-rays and at other times, more than a few? Radiographs, also known as x-rays are necessary for dentistry, to help accurately diagnose and treat dental issues. Up to one-third of your tooth structure is located underneath the gums. Often, dental problems such as an abscess can only be verified by an x-ray in the early stages.

What is Tartar and how does it affect me?
June 6, 2016
We all know that we should brush and floss our teeth at least twice a day but some of us do not know all the reasons why it is essential to maintain proper oral hygiene. In addition to keeping your breath fresh, regular and proper oral health prevents plaque and tartar buildup. When you neglect to brush your teeth regularly, food debris is left behind on your teeth and in between the teeth. Plaque forms when certain foods that contain carbohydrates are left on the teeth due to improper oral hygiene. Over time this plaque will continue to build up and harden. Once it hardens, we refer to it as calculus or tartar.

Why Use A Tongue Cleaner?
May 23, 2016
Most of us know that we should brush and floss daily but most of us never think about cleaning our tongue properly or using a tongue cleaner. The tongue can host many types of bacteria and can also be part of the cause of bad breath. The tongue contains many crevices and areas where bacteria can hide so regular cleaning is required. Due to the uneven surface of the tongue, it is easy for bacteria to hide and can be challenging to clean if the right tools are not used.

Guided Tissue Regeneration
April 11, 2016
In health, your gums and the bone that surrounds your teeth should fit snugly around the tooth. Periodontal disease which is the breakdown of the supporting bone and gum around teeth causes looseness and causes pockets to develop around the tooth. These pockets make it easier for food to get stuck and makes it harder to clean them properly. These pockets usually become deeper, which creates even more room for bacteria to dwell in and cause damage. This progression of periodontal disease can eventually lead to tooth loss if not treated. Some patients also experience sensitivity to cold and hot foods due to exposed tooth roots. Due to the deep pockets which form, regular flossing and brushing are not enough to clean these deep areas properly. When periodontal disease has caused moderate to severe bone loss, regenerative procedures are recommended.
How Can A Dental Crown Benefit You?
April 5, 2016
A dental crown is also known as a dental cap. It is a hollow, artificial tooth-shaped cover that is used for teeth that are damaged or decayed. The crown or cap is made to match the shape, size and colour of surrounding teeth for a natural look. The crown or cap also strengthens the tooth.
After the crown is permanently cemented into place on top of the tooth, it completely covers the entire top portion of the tooth that is above the gum line.
